Band of the week 17/2026
Origin: Castrop-Rauxel, Germany
Genre: Singer/Songwriter, Folk
Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version.
The band about itself:
14,000 YouTube subscribers, over 4.5 million video views, and ~10,000 monthly Spotify listeners speak for themselves:
Vogelsang are a fixture on the German folk scene.
But it’s not just online—their songs are especially captivating when performed live.
Editorial commentary:
I don’t know about you, but I’ve always liked music with substance. Okay, read the german version for the joke behind that. Sören Vogelsang, the mastermind behind the Vogelsang project, isn’t just a gifted musician—until a few years ago, he was also part of the comedy-music duo Das Niveau. That’s where it all began. I discovered them on an online radio station, saw them at the MPS, and long after they broke up, I finally got around to buying a few of their CDs. But all that is history. Through social media, I learned that Sören wanted to continue making music under his own name even after the project ended—something he had already been doing, as I found out later. There was a bit less of humor that had everyone giggling like kids, but all the more truly intelligent and funny content, as well as many fantastic cover versions, which Vogelsang released in the albums LARP I–III. In addition, Vogelsang released three albums of his own songs, most recently the 2023 album Optimismus Prime. Vogelsang can now be found at some medieval markets, at festivals, or on Twitch, where he streams regularly. So if you want to experience Sören Vogelsang for yourself, you’ll regularly find opportunities to do so live or digitally—and you should take advantage of that.
