Band of the week 11/2025
Origin: Hamburg, Germany
Genre: Alternative Dark Rock
Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version.
The band about itself:
Since 2015, the Hamburg-based band has been fusing hard music such as rock and gothic with poppy, melancholic depths, and is so catchy that just one listen to a track is enough to keep you humming the melody for days. The German-based alternative dark rock band around founder and namesake Florian Grey transcends genre boundaries through the symbiosis of different musical styles. The trio knows how to playfully break down boundaries and interweave styles, taking the listener on an emotional rollercoaster ride through a world between light and shadow. Influenced by dark rock, metal and pop, walls of guitars and synthesizers meet driving drum beats and the unmistakable and beautiful baritone voice of singer Florian Grey. All of this blends into a stunning, seemingly never-ending soundscape full of epic melodies and catchy lyrics.
Editorial commentary:
Florian Grey started in 2013 as a solo artist with various live accompaniments. I met him in person for the first time in spring 2015 on Lord of the Lost’s „A Night To Remember“ tour, where he was always the opener of the truly memorable evenings. I saw them a second time, then already as a permanent band, on their own acoustic tour at the end of 2017. For personal reasons I lost sight of the project after that.
Years later – in 2024 – I saw the band again as support for Tanzwut on the „Achtung Mensch“ tour and was very pleasantly surprised. Visually much changed and much more rocking than I remembered, Florian Grey really fired up the ponderous Berlin audience. My personal highlight was when frontman and namesake Florian not only performed the last song of the set together with the audience, but also from the audience.
Personally, I will definitely keep an eye on Florian Grey and see where the guys from Hamburg go from here. Their music has definitely found its way into my Spotify playlist. Florian Grey have released three albums to date: Gone (Echozone, released in 2015), Ritus (Echozone, released in 2018) and Destroying Kingdoms (NoCut, released in 2023) – the fourth, Beautiful Nightmares, is in the starting blocks and will be released in 2025. You can be curious 😉
