Band of the week 12/2025
Origin: Stuttgart, Germany
Genre: Metalcore
Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version.
The band about itself:
MAVIS is back with a powerhouse of a single, DNA, redefining heavy and diving headfirst into raw, uncharted territory for the German metalcore ambassadors. Once again teaming up with Manuel Renner at Überlärm Studios, MAVIS has crafted a sound that’s both crushing and exhilarating, pushing their own boundaries to reach new levels of intensity and depth.
Following their debut album, Grief is no Ally, DNA kicks off a bold new era for the band—one marked by relentless growth, packed shows across Germany, and standout performances at top festivals like Summer Breeze Open Air. This new release taps into the band’s evolving style and success as they continue to make waves in Germany’s metal scene, capturing a darker, more profound essence that reflects their journey and transformation.
Editorial commentary:
Mavis manage to create a very special, melodic atmosphere with their playing. The interplay between the instruments and Phil’s vocals create spheres you could drift into for weeks. These melodies are enriched with progressive elements at the right places to create a very own sound world. Skillful tempo changes and breakdown passages make Mavis what they are: an emotional journey that transports a lot of feelings and can shine over and over again. Personally, I associate their song Monsters with a very important period in my life, which once again speaks to the importance of music in general. Mavis deliver songs that you can relate to, that you can find yourself in. They also manage to convey all these points on stage, which makes them a first class and authentic live band and more than qualifies them for this category.
