The band about itself:
Emerging from the disbanded Dawn of Disease, Melodic Death Metal powerhouse HIRAES embarked on their musical endeavour in 2020. The dynamic quintet melds the collective talents of former Dawn of Disease instrumentalists Lukas Kerk, Oliver Kirchner, Christian Wösten, and Mathias Blässe with the commanding vocals of Britta Görtz (ex-Critical Mess, ex-Cripper) to craft a thrilling new Melodic Death experience.
HIRAES‘ music weaves between anthemic melodies and captivating guitar riffs, where catchy hooks meet relentless drumming, all enveloped in a melancholic aura. Lead singer Britta’s distinctive, versatile growls and screams add a distinctive layer of depth to their sound. The band’s musical identity finds inspiration in the Welsh term „hiraeth,“ encapsulating a sense of nostalgia and yearning for lost places or a home that might never have existed, casting a profound gloom over HIRAES‘ concept. This compelling atmosphere is mirrored in their poignant, emotional lyrics.
Editorial commentary:
The first time I saw Hiraes was at the last Fimbul Festival, although I had already met the band members and their bands before. Being a big fan of melodic death metal anyway, I was pretty excited and wasn’t disappointed.
In the meantime, the five around frontwoman Britta Görtz have released their new album and were confirmed to support one of my favorite bands, Dark Tranquillity, on whose tour I finally got to see Hiraes live again. What can I say… They have developed themselves and their style and were just really fun.
Everyone was having so much fun on stage and you could see and feel it. This energy was transferred to the audience and the hair was flying. Personally I also think that Dormant, their latest album, has become incredibly strong, a real plank that they brought to the stage in the same way.
So… do you like Melo Death? You don’t know Hiraes yet? What are you waiting for? Listen, enjoy and preferably see them live soon! A clear recommendation from me and actually a must!
