Origin: Breda, Netherlands
Genre: Melodic Death/Groove Metal
Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version.
The band about itself:
Emotion tempered by diligence.
Passion through performance. Each note carries a story of its own.
Captivating the audience on stage, their undeniable chemistry is one of the driving forces behind the melodic metal band TerraDown. Blurring the boundaries of different genres with a passion for pushing their own, every step taken is a move toward growth and development.
With love for harmony, experimental technicality and a touch of theatrics, TerraDown consists of five members from the Netherlands. Their journey began in 2016, with their crowning achievement being their performance at Wacken Open Air in 2019. This was closely followed by the release of the bands’ first album Judgement in 2020.
Now, in 2023, TerraDown stages their revival with the release of the EP and video clip: ‚Checkmate.‘ This release tells a personal tale of losing control, conquering physical and mental illness.
Join us as we delve deeper into the journey of TerraDown.
Editorial commentary:
I met Terradown for the first time at the Wacken Metal Battle 2019. During a long break between the bands, I spontaneously decided to stop by the History Stage to give the still unknown musicians a chance. During their 25-minute set, the Dutch band completely blew me away, their sound and appearance were simply sensational and they ended up being my favourite act of the entire Wacken Open Air 2019. Of course I didn’t miss the opportunity to chat with the band afterwards and get one of their t-shirts. Even then I liked them immediately and decided to keep an eye on them. Their debut album Judgement, released in 2020, was an instant hit and the first single Memories in particular established itself as a real favourite. Terradown always proved to be likeable and humorous in conversation, you could really keep in touch with them. Last year they finally released their next release with the EP Checkmate, and here one hit follows the other: the sound and production have matured quite a bit and the focus is more on melodic death metal, but without losing the groove. The four songs are catchy, with the title track standing out the most. After five years we finally met again on the Ektomorf tour, but I missed this gig almost completely… At least we were able to have a long and detailed chat in person, and here Nick, Mark, Joris, Jasper and Boudewijn proved what makes them all so likeable: down-to-earth, open, friendly and full of humour. In addition to their great music, Terradown are also great people to wish all the success in the world. The next new single, Fly Free, was recently released and it will be interesting to see what this great band has in store for us in the future.
