Band of the week: Make A Move

Band of the week 18/2025

Origin: Berlin, Germany
Genre: Brass Funk Rap

Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version.

The band about itself:

A banging stage presence and a daring show, combined with an impressive live band: Make A Move are currently developing from an insider tip into one of the most exciting live acts in the country.

Sometimes the horns play beautiful melodies that really get to you and sometimes the bass and drums deliver fat beats reminiscent of the darkest techno clubs. The overwhelming positivity is highly infectious and turns every concert into an experience that stays with the audience for a long time.

Make A Move will be releasing their second studio album “HOL MICH AB” in spring 2025 and are of course not afraid to celebrate this in style during their tour in April!

Editorial commentary:

The band we are presenting this week is something very special and is a bit out of the ordinary. No metal, no black, no gloom; at most a little melancholy, but otherwise a lot of good humor and fun. But why is a magazine that specializes in the aforementioned music genres reporting on a brass funk rap group? Well, it’s time to think outside the box, because Make A Move regularly tear up stages and need to be introduced to a wider audience.

The stars, known from the Make A Move show by and with Make A Move, always get the party started, but it’s not just the beat that’s fat, they also master soulful songs with flying colors. Well, sometimes you do need a funky bassline. The seven beautiful people on drums, bass, guitar, saxophone, trombone, keys and vocals combine all of this in a diverse discography.

With their first EP Gib dir from 2018, the band was already able to celebrate their first successes, but since their collaboration with Marti Fischer at the beginning of 2020 at the latest, they have been able to introduce themselves to a larger audience. The aforementioned Make A Move show took place during the coronavirus pandemic, with top-class guests such as Bodo Wartke and even Alligatoah performing. After a few single releases, the first proper album Bidde Bidde was released in 2022, which was immediately accompanied by a release tour. Another masterpiece followed in 2024 with the Liebe EP, rounded off by the band expansion in the form of Sophie on keys. Most of the songs deal with everyday problems, things that everyone can relate to. Who can say no thanks or likes to postpone everything until Sunday because there’s finally enough time to work through the to-do list? But sometimes you just want to go wild and dance, jump and wiggle your popotin.

Make A Move know how to create a perfect atmosphere. They all work their magic on their instruments, enchanting the audience and creating a connection, the infamous spark that must be ignited, that is second to none. Complete demolition and total escalation are the order of the day, but the quieter songs such as Melancholia or Nie so leicht work just as well and fit in wonderfully without seeming out of place. If you have the chance and stumble across Make A Move somewhere, even if you’re not really into this kind of music, buy a ticket and check out this band. Let yourself be enchanted, otherwise you’re missing out.
