Motel Transylvania was founded in 2013 by Toxi Ghoul (vocals) in Savona, a city in Italy. The original solo project has its early sound in the goth’n’roll genre. This style is also embodied in the first two albums They Dig After Midnight (2016) and Motel Transylvania (2018). In 2020, the band, which now consists of four guys – Taison Gore (guitar), Fish (bass) and Leo Wayan (drums) – realigned its style. From now on, industrial metal was to characterize the new sound.
With their third studio album Generation Lost, which was produced by Marco Barusso (producer of Lacuna Coil, among others) and released in 2023, they consolidated their musical character. This is characterized above all by powerful synthesizers, striking guitars and a dynamic vocal style. With the album release, Motel Transylvania also toured Europe and performed at various festivals – including the Dark Malta Festival (MLT), the Burning Pants Festival (DE), the Corrosion Festival (UK) and the Icerock Festival (CH). The band celebrated their tenth anniversary in September 2024 at a concert in their hometown of Savona.
I personally discovered Motel Transylvania purely by chance on Spotify in the fall of 2024. The song Children of the Dark (actually by Mono Inc.) rang in my ears – familiar, but somehow different, it made me listen up and take a closer look. Industrial influences and a smoky, distinctive voice that didn’t belong to the original performers. I liked this cover song so much that I had to check out the band straight away. I came across Generation Lost and many other songs, which captivated and convinced me from the very first listen. Unfortunately, I haven’t managed to see them live yet, but what’s not happened yet, might in the future 😉
My warmest recommendation: check out Motel Transylvania and let them convince you as much as they convinced me 🙂
