Band of the week 24/2025
Origin: Würzburg, Germany
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version.
The band about itself:
ThyGoat, founded in 2021, combines the dark energy of melodic death metal with epic tales from the world of Eresia. Inspired by Amon Amarth and Arch Enemy, the band’s lyrics present the millennia-spanning writings of scribes documenting the events of this magical world.
Accompanied by powerful riffs and intense melodies, ThyGoat takes the audience on a journey through the nations of Eresia. From nasty growls to rousing guitar solos – the band leaves no metal heart untouched.
Editorial commentary:
The first own album is a big step for every band. The young Würzburg band ThyGoat has now achieved this. On June 6, after 4 years of existence, the debut album Cries of Eresia was released. To coincide with this, there was also a release show at the local b-Hof in Würzburg. And you could tell that the band had already built up a loyal little fan base over the years, which really celebrated this gig.
Although I had known the people behind the band for some time, this was the first opportunity for me to see the band live, as it had never happened before. And that was despite the fact that they were regular visitors. It probably wasn’t meant to be before.
And so, with an open mind, I was greeted by strong female fronted melodic death metal that was stylistically reminiscent of Amon Amarth, but without seeming like a copy. The musical framework is complemented by lyrics that play in a world of their own, away from the usual Viking themes of the genre’s major representatives. The whole thing was presented really well live, with an 80-minute headlining show, a rarity for a band of this size. For fans of the genre, the Würzburgers are definitely a clear recommendation!
