Band of the week 35/2024: Carbonic Fields
Origin: Le Havre, Normandy, France
Genre:Progressive/Groove/Thrash Metal
Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version.
The band about itself:
Everyone goes through their own „carbonic field“, be it quite soft or denser…Carbonic Fields, with their heterogeneous and corrosive metal, denounce through their music all the aggressions we undergo everyday and put in words the way we react to them!
But Carbonic Fields wants to be a live band. They want to unveil their sound and visual universe to people. Welcome to our toxic world !!!
Editorial commentary:
At this point I have to admit: I think France is one of the countries that I associate least with metal music in my head. Of course, this has only recently changed with the Olympic Games, but at the time I didn’t think I’d be digging up a gem from this country any time soon.
But that was to change with the last Wacken Open Air. As in previous years, I’ve been paying more attention to the Metal Battle, not just because it’s celebrating its 20th anniversary, but because I’ve always found it very inspiring. However, as my colleagues have already been able to highlight a few bands in their Metal Battle reports, I didn’t look too bad when Carbonic Fields went unmentioned. To describe the band for the people who weren’t there or didn’t watch the stream (The stream is still available on MagentaMusik until August 2025!) or even knew them before: A group of men in white/black make-up, black shirts, black jeans and prominent red ties, who walked through a bakery. Singer Thomas D’Herbomez wears a black coat and hat. Musically, they remind me (in my opinion) of an illegitimate child of Circus of Fools and Russkaja, except that the folk instruments have been stolen from them. All in all, it’s a curious mixture which, although intended to reflect a toxic world, leaves me grinning and prancing like a little kid. Even if it is loud and coarse, the rhythm pulls you along and drives you forward. One thing is for sure, if I ever get the chance to see them again, I will definitely make the most of it.
So, have a listen in the music suggestion below or watch the Wacken gig on Magenta and let me know if I’m right with my paraphrase.
