Band of the week 39/2025
Origin: Stuttgart, Germany
Genre: Punk Rock, Indie Rock, Pop Punk, and Post-Punk
Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version.
The band about itself:
“Well, if you name your band SCHMUTZKI, you shouldn’t be surprised that from then on you’ll have to tame a snarling, ever-growing three-and-a-half-chord monster. The recipe is as simple as it gets: a few razor-sharp riffs, dirt-stapled rhythms, and a set of rusty vocal cords that shoot irresistible hooklines through the speakers like grappling hooks. With big mouths, a wink, and a lot of heart, SCHMUTZKI mix up punk rock in their own way, not caring much for formulas. But there’s more… something you can’t cultivate: authenticity. Because Schmutzki means real songs, real energy, real friends!”
Editorial commentary:
With loud mouths and guitar riffs somewhere between Kraftklub-style post-punk and edgy indie rock, SCHMUTZKI often take up themes such as friendship, partying, drinking, and the general feeling of life in their songs—often with the attitude of wanting to “wipe the hard drive clean” on the weekend, as for example in their song Sauflied.
In true genre fashion, their more recent songs increasingly highlight socially critical aspects, such as the tension between work and leisure or the contradiction between duty and freedom. SCHMUTZKI stand for pure authenticity: raw, energetic, and always straight to the point. On stage they deliver captivating shows that are fun, powerful, and combine live music with a wink. A party vibe meets rich emotion—without ever becoming shallow.
