Band of the week: The Other

Band of the week 44/2024

Origin: Cologne, Germany
Genre: Horrorpunk, Punkrock

Hier geht’s zur deutschen Version.

The band about itself:

THE OTHER loves to scare their Punk Rock, Goth- and Metal audiences alike… so there is no escaping them in Europe, not even in the USA, the UK or in Russia. Not even in comic books or their own audio play.

Editorial commentary:

Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s fitting that we’re introducing you to horror punk band The Other today. I didn’t know the band, which isn’t surprising, as I tend to belong to the symphonic metal group in our team. The Other were one of the first bands at this year’s Amphifestival, and I was excited to see what was in store for me. As a photographer, what more could you want than a band dressed in blood-smeared horror outfits and interacting really well with the audience? That can only make for cool pictures. And then Rod Usher, the lead singer, came on stage and I almost forgot to take the pictures. With their dark, energetic punk rock and Rod Usher’s charismatic vocals, the band really got me. Here are a few facts about the band:
The Other formed in Leichlingen in 2002. The band name refers to “the strange, the unknown”. They started out as a pure Misfits cover band in 1999 under the name Ghouls, and began writing their own songs at the request of their many fans. Role models and influences in their songs can be found in KISS, Iron Maiden, Type O Negative and other gothic/metal bands. They now play at all the big festivals such as Wacken, the Amphifestival and M’era Luna.

For me, The Other were my personal highlight and new discovery at the Amphifestival. I was able to get to know them personally at the meet and greet stand. A super likeable bunch – all questions were answered, autographs were diligently signed, and they were up for any photo fun.

The Other are on the Hell Nights Tour together with The 69 Eyes, Nekromantix, Zombeast and Mad Sin. There will be an aftershow party and it will be spooky… You shouldn’t miss it! You can find the dates below.
