Editorial commentary:
System Noire is a dark electro band from Hanover that was founded in 2016 by singer Björn Miethe. They combine electronic beats with dark and often melancholic melodies. In doing so, they create a unique atmosphere that appeals to fans of gothic, industrial and darkwave music. Their style combines elements of EBM, industrial, synthpop and dark electro. It has continued to evolve over the last few years, most recently with rock guitar influences on the album Aftermath (2024).
Initially a two-piece (just vocals and keyboard), the combination has now – following a number of line-up changes – developed into a five-piece band: Björn Miethe (vocals), Daniel Gosewisch (keyboard), Michael Meyer (drums), Gaia Freigeist (guitar) and Renee Brandt (synthesiser, drums).
They have made a name for themselves in the scene with their impressive soundscapes and profound lyrics. They inspire both at their club shows and at major festivals such as the Wave Gotik Treffen.
Personally, I’ve known System Noire almost since the beginning. I saw them live for the first time at Tommyhaus in Berlin in February 2016. Since then, I’ve been following their steady rise in the scene. After a long break from concerts, I last saw them live when they supported Nachtmahr in late 2024. I was once again impressed by their rock-electronic sound, which is absolutely danceable. I’m looking forward to following the further development of this promising young band.
