Post-black | Doom metal band
Editorial commentary:
The first time I saw Dymna Lotva was last year (2023) at Prophecy Fest, when they played 2 short gigs on the small stage. I hadn’t heard of the band at the time, so their performance was a surprising new discovery for me at the festival. Even back then, the strong stage performance of singer Nokt, which perfectly embodies the emotions and despair of the music, was convincing. This year, Prophecy Productions invited the band again, this time even on the main stage, and the show topped last year’s performance. The music is strongly influenced by Slavic folklore and by the difficult past and the escape from Belarus. The resulting music is therefore incredibly emotional and deep. The band also openly stands up for Ukraine and against Russia during their performances. In the announcements, Nokt talks about the suffering and death of these people, friends.
The lyrics in Belarusian are incomprehensible to many listeners in Europe, myself included, but the message behind them gets across despite the language barrier. And in the end, music is a universal language.
This year, the band is also going on their first own tour, so anyone who has the opportunity to see the band should not miss it and make up their own mind.
