When the cold winds sweeps over the earth and the screams echoes from the dying worshippers of the sun, it’s too late for regret. Now is the time to choose side or suffer eternally!
Editorial commentary:
It’s getting cold – I mean really freezing – so today I’d like to introduce you to the Swedish melodic black metal band Istapp!
It all starts with the name, which means ‚icicle‘ in Swedish. As I said, that sets the tone: the five Ice Warriors look as though they’ve emerged from the depths of an apocalyptic blizzard and have fully embraced the theme of absolute zero. For anyone who’s confused or didn’t pay attention in physics class… This is -273.15 degrees Celsius. Adorned with thick leather coats bearing all kinds of intricate details, necklaces made of bones and teeth, and blood, they’re quite a sight to behold.
And then there’s the music…
Melodic yet heavy with intricate riffs and accompanied by keyboard samples and clean vocals in certain passages, Istapp will wrap their icy claws around you and never let go! They remain true to the motto of absolute zero and eternal winter here, too, with a few forays into Norse mythology.
When blood will freeze and life will turn to death, the (Ice) Age for Istapp has arrived.
I highly recommend this fantastic band to anyone who’s into melodic black metal! Check them out, come to their shows, celebrate eternal winter with them, and join the “Against the Sun” cult! By the way, their backdrop also features a giant sun with a line through it. It only gets weird when, during one of their open-air shows, the sun actually comes out and bathes everything in blinding sunlight.
And if you ever get the chance to meet them at the merch stand or take a picture with them… Do it, because even though they seem dark and icy on the outside, the sun is shining inside them after all 😉
