The band about itself:
Sir Reg are a seven-piece, high-energy band from Sweden, fronted by Irishman Brendan Sheehy. He left his hometown of Dublin and came to Sweden to pursue his dream – to put together the best band there is.
With songs about everything possible, from problems of modern society to the search for the right bar on a saturday night, combined with powerful melodies and explosive live shows, Sir Reg have made a name for themselves on the Celtic punk and rock scene.
Since the band’s formation in 2009, they have released six critically acclaimed albums and have performed on many of the world’s biggest stages alongside bands such as The Mahones, The Misfits, Thin Lizzy and The Real McKenzies.
Their latest album, Kings of Sweet Feck All (2022), continues the tale of stories and struggles of ordinary men and women – those fighting to have their voices heard and their opinions counted, without losing their spirit or their ability to enjoy the simpler things in life, such as hanging out with friends at their favourite pub on a saturday night.
Editorial commentary:
I first saw Sir Reg in autumn 2023, when they were supporting The O’Reillys and the Paddyhats. Their sound is reminiscent of bands like Flogging Molly or Dropkick Murphy’s and is characterised by driving punk rhythms, catchy melodies and instruments such as the violin, mandolin and banjo, which lend the songs their unmistakable irish character. During the show, you don’t know where to look, as seven bundles of energy sweep across the stage as if there were no tomorrow. They jump, dance and run around each other, whilst the audience follows Sir Reg’s lead.
So far this year, I’ve been able to catch the band at three gigs and can hardly wait for them to return to Germany in August. Anyone from Baden-Württemberg or the surrounding area will have the chance to see the swedish band live next month. On 8 August, Sir Reg will be playing in Mannheim, in the ALTER Mannheim venue and on the following day, at one of Karlsruhe’s most rustic pubs, Scruffy’s Irish Pub.
