The band about itself:
Kelsy Karter & The Heroines is a four-piece Australian/British rock & roll band whose debut album Missing Person was critically acclaimed and a thrilling introduction to a truly singular musical mind.
Like all of the most electrifying acts, the band’s frontwoman Kelsy Karter is an unapologetic singer/songwriter who invites the audience into a beautifully strange world of her own making, a fantasia that’s equal parts rock-and-roll grit and wildly theatrical grandeur. Rolling Stone Magazine called Kelsy a beacon for female rockstars. Fueled by her mesmerizing vocal work accompanied by dirty electric guitars, Kelsy Karter & The Heroines display intricate storytelling and uncompromising outlooks on life, love, and self-liberation. Despite the defiant spirit that shines through nearly every song, the music is vulnerable and cuts deep for any listener. Kelsy Karter, an Australian theatre kid, fronts the band while drummer Sebastian Boyse, guitarist Matt Peach and bassist Tommy Gent all grew up together in Derby, England.
The band has spent the past few years touring the world as headliners, support and festivals, most recently in 2023 supporting Billy Idol across the US and Palaye Royale in EU. They are currently working on their second album which has been described by the band as an electric and emotional adventure. Their guitar-drenched sound steeps in elements of glam rock, punk and Britpop giving way to a sonic aesthetic both undeniably timeless and entirely of-the-moment..
Editorial commentary:
What do you do when you feel like you’ve been born in the wrong generation? When you love all the old rock’n’roll and metal music but will never be able to enjoy them live. (Or better, in their prime). Right, you keep digging until you find the modern-day Bands that sound and look like they are straight from the 80s Sunset Strip. And eventually you’ll stumble over Kelsy Karter & the Heroines. At least that’s what I did. Somewhere in the rabbit hole between Mötley Crüe, Guns’n Roses and Cinderella, I found Kelsy and her boys. Raspy voice, epic guitar solos and raw emotions. Needless to say, the whole Missing Person album went straight to my playlist, as did the band on my “wanna photograph“ -list.
Here’s the thing: I was on and about to photograph Escape the Fate in June 2024, just a few weeks after I discovered Kelsy Karter & the Heroines. Color me surprised when I found out a week before, that they were supporting the Escape the Fate Tour. And if I didn’t already love them enough on tape, I definitely fell even harder after the show. I’m a sucker for high energy and crowd interactions, and, oh boy, did they kill it. Nearly forgot to snap photos at some point because I was enjoying the show so much. Only nearly. I snapped one of my best photos so far at this concert, of the guitarist Peach. I also exchanged a few words with Kels after the show and she’s a real sweetheart.
Long story short: if you’re into rock music, go give them a listen.
