The band about itself:

SOKAE liefern den besten SOK PUNK mit einer Menge Humor und Charakter.

SOKAE delivers the best SOK PUNK with plenty of humor and personality. (translated by Dark-Art)

Editorial commentary:

In the mood for punk with socks and cats?

Sounds like a wild combination? It is. The trio from Stuttgart/Gerlingen blends German-language punk with plenty of humor, a dash of pop, social commentary, and a touch of self-deprecating humor. SOKAE (pronounced “Socke”) has been around since 2018. In their current lineup, Deniz Karagöz handles vocals and guitar, Alex Lux plays bass, and Maurice Frey is on drums.

The guys don’t take themselves too seriously, but the topics addressed in their songs are all the more serious and important for it. Whether it’s consumerism, self-improvement, social pressure, or current political developments: SOKAE manages to package serious topics in a way that works on stage, and it works surprisingly well. Musically, the guys fall somewhere between German punk, pop-punk, and melodic punk rock. The songs have very direct lyrics, the choruses stick in your head, and it’s really hard not to move to the music. The main thing is to give it your all, whether you’re moshing, dancing, or singing along at the top of your lungs. In recent years, SOKAE has played over 70 shows and had the opportunity to perform on the main stage at this year’s Kessel Festival in Stuttgart.

And now for the next milestone:

On October 9, Ganz normaler Wahnsinn was released – SOKAE’s first album.

Ten songs, social commentary, support from well-known punk legends, and a dash of SOKAE madness? You can have it all. Because the album not only includes unreleased new songs but also all the singles released so far. With Clubsterben the trio not only delivers a feature with Ralf Dietel – known from KRASHKARMA and WIZO – but also a track that really showcases what SOKAE is all about. Punk is more than just noise and anger, punk is also danceable, silly, and critical! And unfortunately, the decline of clubs is a current and sad issue for the scene, because clubs are closing down everywhere and there are often no alternatives.

But SOKAE don’t want to reinvent punk or try to be especially cool. They do their own thing, stay true to themselves, and are actually cool in the process. And after all, everyone likes cats, right?
