The band invites the listeners to travel to a disturbing yet beautiful place that feels warm and welcoming yet haunting and hopeless.
Marianas Rest is a band that embodies the Finnish melancholy and sadness of the harsh winter landscape, the social coldness of the people. We’ve created a sound that has deep roots in our culture and a solid connection to the part of Finland we come from.

With Marianas Rest, I’ve reached the next band on my list that deserves the “Made in Finland” seal of quality — because honestly, the Finns just know how good music works.
That’s not different with Marianas Rest, even though they tend to show their more melancholic and doom‑laden side.
With a voice full of pain, Jaakko Mäntymaa hurls deeply emotional lyrics straight at you. Lyrically, almost everything revolves around the already‑mentioned Finnish melancholy, but also hopelessness, loss, and the glimmer of hope that eventually emerges.
Yes, it’s heavy fare … definitely nothing for a quick listen. But if you take your time, sit down with their albums in peace, and let yourself be carried away by the weight of it all, Marianas Rest truly gives a lot back.
They also completely won me over live … If I can stand at a concert with my eyes closed and just let go entirely, then that’s a band that will continue to have a permanent place in my daily playlist.
