The band about itself:
Block of Flats (Porvoo, Finland) creates powerful and charismatic modern metal, combining different styles of music in a bold and unique way. Their sound brings together melodic pop choruses, heavy metal riffs topped with electronic elements and creative arrangements — all driven by the energy and attitude of punk and rock. The band is especially known for their energetic live performances and have left their mark in Finland’s biggest rock festivals and clubs across Europe, leaving audiences electrified where ever they play.
Their debut album, No Hope For The Hopeless, marked a turning point on the band’s sound. From the very first singles, Feels Like and Lake of Fears, their music has gained attention on radio stations, international playlists and social media, reaching listeners across Europe and United States. The band has signed with Ranka Kustannus and Backbone Management, placing them among Finland’s most notable rock and alternative acts, such as The Rasmus, Blind Channel and VV. The buzz around the band is growing, making them one of the most exciting names in the Finnish rock and metal scene.
Editorial commentary:
Last year, Block of Flats were on The Rasmus’s Weirdo Tour as support acts alongside The Funeral Portrait, and the band really made a lasting impression on me. I got to see Block of Flats live in Karlsruhe in November 2025, and their songs often have a sweet melancholy to them, paired with heavy guitar solos. The song Darkest Days in particular has kept creeping into my head as a catchy tune over the last few months.
Block of Flats were formed in the southern Finnish town of Porvoo in 2013. The current line-up consists of singer Jonne Nikkilä, guitarist Jesse Kataja, bassist Kauri Koponen and drummer Ossi Ågren. Koponen joined the band in 2016, replacing the previous bassist, Oskar Berg.
To date, Block of Flats has completed three tours of the Baltic States, a European tour and numerous concerts in Finland. There are currently no live dates scheduled as the band are working on their second album.
