The band about itself:
After a long night of drinking in the taverns of their home port, whilst the full moon hung high in the constellation of the Holy Prince of Rum, the six buccaneers decided they would no longer serve under their captain, but instead, under the motto ‘Full speed ahead’, set out to win the panties… er… hearts of the harbour girls with their musical performances.
Following a mutiny, which presumably centred on the rationing of the rum supplies, the gallows now awaits the filthy half-dozen on land. They resolved to set sail from then on as outlaws, on their own initiative. They needed a ship! So, without further ado, they boarded the favourite three-masted ship of the lieutenant in the Redcoat fleet, hoisted the black flag and set sail for great adventures under the name Katerfahrt.
Out at sea, life in freedom began – without a captain, without orders, without duties. When they aren’t relieving merchants or Redcoats of their gold and supplies, they party, sing and drink on deck until the planks bend. But should this lice-ridden rabble ever call at a port and venture ashore, their first port of call is always the nearest harbour tavern, where their latest adventures and escapades are sung about in poetic lyrics and catchy melodies. Much of it sounds like pure sailor’s tall tales, yet it is taken as a given that every single word is true… well, almost every word.

Come along with us on a Katerfahrt! Honestly? After a day at the MPS with this band on stage, who’d say no to that?
Katerfahrt, hailing from the Voreifel region, have dedicated themselves to what they themselves call Spiced Pirate Folk and from that name alone, it should be clear that this is all about good stories, drinking binges, freedom and a hell of a lot of fun. Musically, the six buccaneers combine the fiddle, flute and acoustic guitar with a driving foundation of bass and drums. Add to that humorous lyrics about racy nights at sea, drinking for life and death, or even mutinying against the captain. Behind all the rum and amusing stories lie catchy songs that stick in your head. You hear them, and even weeks later the melody is still stuck in your head, and you find yourself singing Es tut mir leid, ich bin Pirat. Ich kann nichts dafür, das ist halt meine Art… on a boring morning in the office.
At their shows, the audience in front of the stage often seems inspired by Katerfahrt’s outfits and becomes part of their crew that way. So everyone dances, jumps and even rows away in front of the stage. With their mix of cheerful melodies and frontman Kraken Kalle’s husky voice, Katerfahrt paint a picture that makes you feel as though you’ve just stumbled out of a tavern yourself.
